Every once in a while, we encounter a news or a documentary about overt animal abuse whenever we switch TV channels or randomly browse through social networking sites. organizations against animal cruelty, indeed, have always been adamant in spreading awareness about such atrocious acts. But more often than not -- the sad truth is -- most people just spare some minutes to empathize with them without actually doing their part to fight for the same cause.

If the multitude of news and videos about animal cruelty isn’t compelling enough for you to join animal rights activists groups, here are 15 more facts that might convince you.


There are more households in the US that have pets than kids.


Domestic violence affects around one million animals annually. Approximately 71 percent of battered women who own pets also reported that their perpetrators have also either injured or killed their pets as an act of revenge.


In the United States, there are about 2,000 animal hoarding cases documented on a yearly basis. These cases have resulted to over 250,000 reports of animal abuse.


The most common victims of animal abuse are the dogs. They make up around 65 percent of cases about animal cruelty. Neglect is the most common form of abuse done to these animals.


After the Civil War, occasions of dogfighting have become rampant across the United States. Dogfighting still occurs today in several urban and rural areas throughout the country.


Until 1986, only four states have implemented anti-animal cruelty laws. As more states followed suit, more people have now become more aware of the advocacies upheld by animal rights activists groups or organizations against animal cruelty.


In 2013, the US Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services has killed over two million animals farmers considered as a threat to their livestock. Animals that were killed include foxes, bears, and prairie dogs among others.


According to the World Health Organization, processed animal meat products like sausages and bacon are considered carcinogenic.


Ninety percent of chicken bred for meat production have encountered trouble in walking, hugely because of genetic modification.


About 20 percent of fish caught by commercial fisheries is actually considered "bycatch." This includes sea turtles, small whales, and many more that often die as they are swept up in huge catching nets.


A study released by the Royal Society Open Science stated that fishes kept in fish farms have a tendency to experience depression, causing them to "commit suicide" and float around lifelessly.


Every year, animals killed during laboratory experiments worldwide tally up to 115 million. These animals include rabbits, monkeys, birds, rats, mice, cats, and dogs.


Animals used as subjects for skin care cosmetics tests are often immobilized and shaved.


It takes around 20 foxes, 16 corotes, 50 muskrats, 25 rabbits, or 8 seals to create and manufacture a 40-inch genuine fur coat. China remains as the top producer of fur, and footages have emerged how animals are skinned alive to obtain fur from them.


Scientists, together with animal rights activists groups or organizations against animal cruelty, voice out that most slaughter practices are unethical.

While we are for the protection of animals and against abuse, we are not in anyway supporting how some animal rights groups vandalize, assault, and resort to violent actions to push for their cause.
