According to the dictionary, a coffee shop is a small and usually inexpensive restaurant where items like various types of coffee and light refreshments are served to the public. While a lot of people feel that coffee shops are a very recent addition to the culture of the society, in reality, they have been in existence for many years. In fact the first coffee house was established in 1642-49 in Tahtakale, Ottoman in Istanbul and by the beginning of the 17th century coffee spread to regions outside the Ottoman empire as well. These shops that served coffee to its customers proved to be extremely helpful platforms for writers, businessmen and politicians to come together and exchange ideas not just within their groups but also outside them. In addition when America began its journey of colonization, the coffee house culture spread to various countries around the globe. The Tontine Coffee House (1792) in New York was actually the original location for the New York Stock Exchange, because a great deal of business was conducted there. With the introduction of new international chains and brands, coffee shops have become an integral and indispensable part of the culture and landscape of modern towns and cities. Considered as an ideal place for business and casual meeting, they are very popular among various sections of the population as well.

Over the past few years, espresso bars have also started gaining the same attention because of their expansive range of espresso. Though they have their roots in Italy, they are today found all over the world as well. Brewed by forcing a small amount of boiling water under pressure through finely ground coffee beans, espresso is generally thicker than other types of coffee and has a higher concentration of suspended and dissolved solids. Espresso is also the base for many other drinks, like caffè latte, cappuccino, caffè macchiato, cafe mocha and has a much higher degree of caffeine per unit volume than most coffee beverages. One of the most popular drink that is served here is Espresso Italiano which is made from some the finest coffee beans and is associated with a very rich and tasty aroma. In addition, espresso bars are usually offer a variety of small eats like sandwiches and pastries to its customers which serve as a perfect accompaniment to their drinks.

All in all, coffee shops are today an integral and important part of the culture and landscape of almost every country in the world. Also, with the ever increasing young population, they will continue to remain as important points people continue to meet and discuss both their personal and professional lives.
